On December 13, 2019, in collaboration with Dutchess County Tourism, Think DIFFERENTLY Dutchess County, and The Bardavon, New Paltz Ballet Theatre presented a very special sensory sensitive performance of The Nutcracker for the first time. After a hiatus due to Covid, we were thrilled to bring this special performance back to the big stage in 2022.
Sensory friendly performances are designed to create a welcoming and inclusive event for children and families with a wide range of sensory, social and learning disabilities, and communication differences. This program has special accommodations that create a more relaxed theatre experience without loosing the magic of a live performance.
The evening started with a red carpet arrival for the Theatre goers and a Welcome from Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro. As they entered the guests were greeted by New Paltz Ballet Theatre ballerinas and had the opportunity to meet and pose for photos. At the conclusion of the performance, the entire cast went out into the audience and lobby to meet and share memories of the evening with everyone!
The New Paltz Ballet Theatre is a 501(c)3 dance company, producing the annual Nutcracker for the Bardavon 1869 Opera House, and hosting educational outreach programs such as its annual Master Class Series and the Ray Delle Memorial Sponsorship for students of its official school, the New Paltz School of Ballet.
